Introduction: How Do You Hire in a Place Where You Know No One?


One of the most important reasons why I had to commit to moving to Malaysia to start the business was to be more connected to the early batch of employees. People are what make your business and I could not depend on anyone to transfer my ideas to large groups of new hires. Everyone is coming from different places with their own ideas, expectations, and ways of working. Not only that but most if not all of your starting managers in a large scale services business do not know you yet. A unique problem of doing a services startup is what I call “everything, everwhere is new all at once”. Doing this in a foreign country puts it on hard-mode.

Founder-led startups that survive and do well benefit greatly from the original vision-holder managing and navigating the company through its inevitable growing pains. What I will share today are snippets from the early part of starting up the hiring
